Returning customers should see a real benefit from continuing to shop with your store. The more they purchase, the higher their loyalty level can become and the better the conditions for future orders.
Cumulative Discount System for JoomShopping 5+ automates a loyalty program based on the standard JoomShopping customer groups. The extension analyzes customer purchases and automatically moves customers to groups with better conditions when configured thresholds are reached.
Customers buy more — the system automatically upgrades their loyalty level.
There is no need to manually calculate each customer's turnover, review order history, and change customer groups in the administration panel.
How JoomShopping customer group discounts work
JoomShopping allows each customer group to have its own discount. After login, customers see prices calculated according to the discount assigned to their group.
For example, a store can create levels such as:
| Customer group |
Example discount |
Upgrade condition |
| New Customer |
0% |
Initial level |
| Regular Customer |
5% |
From 5,000 in purchases |
| Silver |
10% |
From 15,000 |
| Gold |
15% |
From 30,000 |
JoomShopping itself applies the discount according to the customer's group, while the Nevigen extension automates the more complex part — determining when the customer qualifies for the next level and moving them to the appropriate group.
Based on total purchase value or a single order
Two main indicators can be used for customer group transitions:
- the total value of all customer orders;
- the value of a single order.
These conditions can be configured according to the logic of your loyalty program.
Cumulative model
The customer gradually builds total purchase turnover and moves to a higher level after reaching the configured threshold.
Large single order
A single order value can be used as a separate condition, for example to move a high-value customer more quickly into a better group.
Flexible customer group transition rules
The configuration defines more than just an amount. You can build the full transition logic:
- which group the transition starts from;
- which group the customer should be moved to;
- required total order value;
- required value of a single order;
- whether several levels can be skipped;
- whether customers must progress one level at a time.
Conditions for every loyalty level
You define the exact route: from which group → to which group, together with the required total purchase and single-order thresholds.
Step-by-step upgrades or direct transition to the appropriate level
You can choose how customers progress through the loyalty program.
In step-by-step mode, a customer can move only one level per transition even when the purchase amount already meets the requirements of a higher group.
For example, if the structure is:
Default → Junior → Middle → Senior → VIP
and a customer in the Default group places a large order that already meets the Senior threshold, step-by-step progression will move that customer only to Junior first.
This gives the store control over how quickly customers progress through the loyalty program.
If sequential progression is not required, transitions across several levels can be allowed according to the configured conditions.
Multiple independent customer segments
One of the most important capabilities of the system is support for two or more independent transition paths.
For example, the store can maintain separate programs for:
- regular returning customers;
- VIP customers;
- wholesale buyers;
- partners or dealers.
Each segment can have its own group sequence and its own thresholds.
| Segment |
Example levels |
| Regular customers |
5% → 10% → 15% |
| Wholesale customers |
20% → 25% → 40% |
A customer following the regular-customer path does not need to move automatically into the wholesale segment. Transition rules can be configured so customers progress only inside the appropriate segment.
Only selected order statuses are included
You can define which order statuses should be included when calculating accumulated purchase value.
This prevents orders that were not actually completed — such as cancelled orders or any other statuses your store does not treat as completed purchases — from affecting the loyalty program.
The relevant statuses are selected by the administrator according to the store's own order workflow.
Upgrade customers without automatically reducing their level
The system is designed to upgrade customer status.
It does not automatically move a customer back to a lower-discount group simply because their current activity is below the threshold of the higher level.
This is particularly important for loyalty programs: once a customer has earned a higher status, automatically reducing their benefits could negatively affect the customer experience.
Automatic recalculation after orders
After a customer places an order, the system recalculates the required values and checks the configured transition rules.
If the conditions for a new level are met, the customer is automatically moved to the appropriate group without requiring a manager to edit the customer profile manually.
Notify customers about their new level
Moving to a higher customer group is a positive event, so the system allows the store to notify the customer about their new conditions.
You can configure a custom:
- e-mail subject;
- message text.
For example, the customer can be informed that they have reached a new loyalty level and will now receive a larger discount on future purchases.
Communication as part of the loyalty program
The customer does not simply see different prices after login — the store can explicitly notify them that a new loyalty level has been reached.
Administrator notifications
A separate notification can be configured for the store administrator when a customer is moved to a new group.
The administrator notification can have its own subject and message text.
Managers know when customer status changes
This can be especially useful for VIP, partner, dealer, or wholesale programs where a new customer level affects not only pricing but also how the account should be handled.
Works with existing customers too
If a store has been operating for several years, it may already have hundreds or thousands of customers with existing order history. Starting the loyalty program from zero for those customers would not be appropriate.
The extension therefore includes a customer group reassignment function.
After the rules are configured, a recalculation can analyze existing customers and automatically assign the appropriate groups based on their previous purchase history.
Your existing sales history can immediately become part of the loyalty program.
Customers who have already reached the turnover required for a higher level do not need to start accumulating again from the date the extension is installed.
Recalculate the existing customer base
Once your rules are configured, existing purchase history can be checked and customers can be assigned to the appropriate loyalty levels automatically.
Show customers their progress toward the next discount
A loyalty program does not have to remain hidden inside the administration panel. Customers can benefit from seeing how much more they need to purchase to reach the next level.
The cumulative discount data can be used together with
BS-PROFILE for JoomShopping 5+
to display information such as:
2,350 more in purchases to reach the next discount level
This turns the loyalty system from hidden administrative logic into a clear customer goal: shoppers can see their progress and understand that future purchases bring them closer to better conditions.
How cumulative discounts differ from an order amount discount
These are two different marketing mechanisms and serve different purposes.
Cumulative Discount System
Focuses on long-term customer value. Customers accumulate turnover, move to higher groups, and receive better conditions on future purchases.
One mechanism encourages a larger purchase now, while the other gives customers a reason to return and continue purchasing in the future.
Together with the JSBON Bonus System
For a more comprehensive loyalty program, cumulative levels can be used together with
JSBON — Bonus System for JoomShopping 5+
.
The cumulative discount system works with customer groups and long-term discount levels, while JSBON uses a bonus balance as a separate reward mechanism.
This makes it possible to build more advanced loyalty programs where permanent customer status and bonus rewards perform different roles.
Especially useful for
- stores with a high share of repeat purchases;
- stores with a large base of returning customers;
- B2B and wholesale stores;
- stores using VIP levels or partner conditions;
- stores with several independent customer segments;
- projects where manually tracking the turnover of hundreds of customers is no longer practical.
