JoomShopping 5+ Multi-Level Categories Module

The more complex the catalog structure becomes, the more important it is to present it clearly to customers. When a store contains categories, subcategories, and several levels of nesting, a simple flat list is no longer enough.

Multilevel Categories Module for JoomShopping 5+ automatically builds a category tree based on the real JoomShopping catalog hierarchy and can display subcategories at any required depth.

Catalog structure without a fixed depth limit. If a category contains subcategories and those subcategories have their own child categories, the module continues building the tree according to the JoomShopping hierarchy.

Automatic category tree

The module uses the category structure already created in JoomShopping and automatically turns it into a multilevel list.

There is no need to duplicate categories manually in a Joomla menu or maintain a second navigation structure separately.

If your catalog structure looks like this:

  • Category
  • ↳ Subcategory
  • ↳ Second-level subcategory
  • ↳ Third-level subcategory

the module displays it in the same logical hierarchy. The number of nested levels is not limited.

Designed for large and complex catalogs

The module is especially useful for stores where products are distributed across a large number of categories and subcategories.

For example:

Auto Parts

Brand → model → vehicle system → parts group.

Electronics

Device type → category → series → product subcategory.

Industrial Catalog

Area → equipment → type → modification.

Even with a deep catalog structure, customers can follow a logical hierarchy and navigate step by step to the required section.

Unlimited subcategory depth

The module does not restrict the catalog to two or three levels.

If your JoomShopping structure contains deeper levels, they can also be displayed as part of the category tree.

Your catalog defines the hierarchy — not the module. You can structure categories according to the needs of the store instead of adapting the catalog to a fixed number of navigation levels.

Navigation without duplicating the catalog structure

If categories are already organized correctly in JoomShopping, the module uses that existing hierarchy directly.

This simplifies administration: when the catalog structure changes, there is no need to rebuild a manually maintained category menu separately.

Navigation stays consistent with the actual product catalog because the module reflects the JoomShopping category hierarchy itself.

Where the module can be used

As a standard Joomla module, the category list can be published in any suitable template module position.

Common scenarios include:

  • sidebar catalog navigation;
  • a dedicated store category menu;
  • category navigation on the catalog page;
  • additional navigation in a specific template area;
  • navigation for large catalogs with several subcategory levels.

When it is more practical than a standard Joomla menu

A standard Joomla menu needs to be created and maintained separately. For a large store, this may mean manually duplicating the catalog structure.

Multilevel Categories Module works directly with the JoomShopping hierarchy, making it more practical when store categories change regularly or use deep nesting.

Joomla Menu

The navigation structure is created separately and requires manual maintenance.

JoomShopping Categories

The module uses the existing catalog hierarchy and displays it automatically.

UIkit 3 and Bootstrap 5

The module is designed for modern Joomla templates and supports UIkit 3 and Bootstrap 5.

This makes it suitable both for YOOtheme Pro / UIkit projects and for Joomla templates based on Bootstrap 5.

Together with Product Filter

For large catalogs, category navigation can be combined with Product Filter for JoomShopping 5+ .

The categories module helps customers reach the correct section of the catalog, while the filter can then narrow the selection by price, manufacturer, characteristics, attributes, and other parameters.

Categories answer “where should I look?”, while the filter answers “which product fits my requirements?” For large catalogs, these two tools complement each other well.
