Not every order should be paid immediately after checkout. Sometimes the store first needs to confirm actual product availability, check delivery times, or clarify order details with the customer.

Deferred Order Payment for JoomShopping 5+ allows the store to create a complete order first and make online payment available later — after a manager has reviewed the order and changed its status.

Customers do not need to rebuild the cart or complete checkout again. Once the order is ready for payment, they can proceed to the payment gateway from their account or through an available payment button.

When immediate online payment creates a problem

In a standard workflow, the customer places an order and immediately proceeds to payment.

However, this is not always convenient for the store. For example:

• supplier stock may change faster than the website is updated;
• the product is sold through dropshipping;
• the actual delivery time needs to be confirmed;
• some order items require verification;
• a manager needs to agree on details before payment;
• the customer wants to place the order now and pay a little later.

If payment is accepted first and the product later turns out to be unavailable or the delivery time is unsuitable, the store may also have to handle a refund.

Deferred payment changes this sequence: order and verification first, online payment afterwards.

How the deferred payment workflow works

1. The customer builds the cart and places an order.
2. During checkout, an available online payment method is selected.
3. The order is created in JoomShopping, but payment can be completed later.
4. The manager checks product availability, delivery times, and other details.
5. If necessary, the manager contacts the customer and clarifies the order.
6. Once the order is moved to an allowed status, a payment button becomes available to the customer.
7. The customer proceeds to the same online payment gateway and pays for the existing order.

Control payment through order statuses

The store decides which order statuses allow deferred payment.

For example, the workflow can be:

• new order — manager checks it;
• availability confirmed — payment becomes available;
• the customer pays the order;
• the order then continues through the standard processing workflow.

In this way, order status becomes part of the business logic: the store determines exactly when the customer can proceed to payment.

Payment button in the customer account

The option to pay can be displayed directly in the customer's account.

The extension supports a payment button:

• on the individual order details page;
• in the customer's order list.

The customer signs in, finds the required order, and proceeds to online payment without placing the order again.

Payment directly from the Thank You page

If required, the payment button can also be displayed on the final checkout page — the Thank You page.

This means the extension can be used not only for longer payment delays, but also for workflows where the order must first be securely created before the customer is redirected to the payment gateway.

The order remains in the store before payment

An important advantage of this workflow is that the store receives the actual order first.

Even if the customer does not proceed to payment immediately, the administrator already has:

• the cart contents;
• the order total;
• customer contact information;
• selected shipping and payment methods;
• other information collected during checkout.

The manager can contact the customer and continue working with the existing order.

For online payment systems only

Deferred payment is relevant specifically to payment methods that can reopen an online payment process for an existing order.

The extension works only with online payment systems.

Offline payment methods — such as a standard bank transfer using account details or payment on delivery — do not require this mechanism.

Use the payment method selected during checkout

Customers do not select a new payment gateway when paying later.

Payment is completed through the online method selected when the order was originally created.

For example, the store can use Plata by MONO (Monobank) for JoomShopping 5+ or LiqPay Privat24 for JoomShopping 5+ , provided that the corresponding payment module supports the required online-payment workflow.

A convenient workflow for dropshipping

With dropshipping, the store does not always directly control actual warehouse stock.

A product may appear available on the website, but its availability needs to be confirmed with the supplier before payment is accepted.

In this workflow, deferred payment allows the store to:

• capture the customer's order;

When the customer needs to pay later

Notify the manager about a new order

If new orders need to be checked quickly before payment is enabled, you can additionally use Telegram Order Informer for JoomShopping 5+ .

The manager receives information about a new order in Telegram and can proceed more quickly to availability verification and further processing.
