The larger the product range of an online store, the more difficult it becomes for customers to quickly find exactly the product that meets their requirements.
A large number of categories, models, colors, sizes, materials, manufacturers, and other parameters can turn product selection into a lengthy process of browsing through dozens of catalog pages. Even a wide product range stops being an advantage if customers have difficulty finding the right option.
The goal of a well-organized online store is not simply to show customers as many products as possible, but to help them quickly narrow a large catalog down to a few relevant offers.
This is exactly the role of a product filter. In a physical store, a sales consultant asks about the customer's budget, size, color, preferred manufacturer, and other requirements, and then suggests suitable products. In an online store, a properly configured filtering system performs the same function.
Customers should not have to search through the entire catalog.
The filter makes it possible to immediately narrow the product range by the required parameters and leave only the products that match the customer's requirements.
A customer who has already decided on the main characteristics of a future purchase is usually very close to placing an order. All that remains is to find the right model within your product range.
By selecting the required parameters step by step, the user receives one or several suitable products, after which they can compare their characteristics, review their advantages, and proceed to purchase.
Modern filtering mechanism
The filter is built on an updated algorithm and uses a hybrid operating mechanism with partial AJAX usage.
Product filtering is performed by generating a separate URL and reloading the page. This approach makes it possible not only to filter products, but also to use filtering results as full-featured store pages — for example, to create landing pages, advertising campaigns, or share a ready-made link to a specific product selection.
Product filtering
The module allows products to be filtered:
- by price range — using input fields and a trackbar;
- by categories;
- by manufacturers;
- by suppliers or vendors — this feature is planned for future versions upon request;
- by product characteristics;
- by attributes;
- by product labels;
- by product availability or out-of-stock status;
- by the presence of a discounted or old price;
- by the presence of reviews;
- by the presence of a product image.
Module features
-
Configurable filter order.
The administrator can independently define the display order of available filtering parameters.
-
Filtering products from subcategories.
Products from nested categories can be included in the parent category without the need to assign the same product to multiple categories.
-
Flexible value sorting.
The display order of manufacturers, categories, and other parameters can be configured.
-
Accurate price filtering.
Prices of dependent product attributes are taken into account.
-
Support for the store's current currency.
The price range is calculated according to the currency currently selected by the user on the website.
-
Support for user group discounts.
Price filtering can take prices based on the user's customer group into account.
-
Correct handling of dependent attributes and stock levels.
Product availability for specific combinations of dependent attributes is taken into account during filtering.
-
Modular template system.
Different custom filter layout templates can be created and used.
Landing Pages and predefined product selections
The filter allows you to create Landing Pages — menu items with predefined filtering parameters.
For example, you can create separate pages for selections such as “products from a specific manufacturer under a certain price”, “products of a specific color”, “discounted products”, or any other combination of available parameters.
Since the selected parameters are included in the URL, the resulting filtered selection can be shared via a link, used in advertising campaigns, or linked to individual modules and content blocks on the website.
Convenient management of selected parameters
When using the filter, a special status bar can be enabled above the product list. It displays the number of products found, active filtering parameters, and allows users to quickly remove individual parameters or completely clear the current selection.
This is especially useful when several characteristics are used at the same time, allowing customers to immediately see which conditions affect the resulting product list.
Where the filter works
The module can be used on the following JoomShopping pages:
- product category pages;
- manufacturer pages;
- Landing Pages created based on filter parameters;
- the JoomShopping search page.
Automatic title generation for pages with selected filtering parameters is planned for future versions.
